Mamata’s plea in National Anthem defamation case dismissed: Latest Tamil News

The Bombay High Court has rejected Mamata Banerjee’s plea to be released from a case involving insults made to the national anthem. During a meeting with Nationalist Congress leader Sarath Pawar in Mumbai in 2021, Banerjee, who is the West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader, along with other journalists, sang the national anthem while sitting instead of standing up as a mark of respect. Vivekananda Gupta, a member of BJP, filed a case against her in the Magistrate’s Court. Despite a summons being issued in March last year, Banerjee did not appear, and her petition seeking discharge from the case was also dismissed by Judge Amit Borkar in the Bombay High Court.

Mumbai: In the case of insulting the national anthem, the Bombay High Court rejected Mamata’s plea to be released from the case. West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee went on a 3-day trip to Maharashtra capital Mumbai in 2021 and met Nationalist Congress leader Sarath Pawar. Earlier, during the meeting of journalists, the national anthem was sung while sitting instead of standing up to pay respect.

BJP’s Vivekananda Gupta filed a case in the Magistrate’s Court. In March last year, the magistrate court issued summons in connection with the case. Absent-appearance, the petition filed by Mamata in the Bombay High Court seeking discharge from the case came up for hearing today. Judge Amit Borkar dismissed the petition.
