As we know how we come to bones, more or less fossilized, being the typical material for studying extinct animals, this leg of the woolly mammoth, an animal that died out thousands of years ago, is very surprising . Under the right conditions of preservation, which can occur by chance in nature if you are lucky, more tissues than just bones can be preserved and in a good condition. To the point where it is possible to extract a lot of DNA, as was done in a recent study with tissues from a woolly mammoth from 52,000 years ago, carried out by a group that is, among others, Marcela Sandoval-Velasco , from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, and Love Dalén, from the Stockholm Center for Paleogenetics in Sweden and the Swedish Museum of Natural History. The study is titled “Three-dimensional genetic architecture in a 52,000-year-old woolly mammoth skin sample.” And it was published in the journal of Cell science. (source: NCYT is a miracle)
