SAPULPA, Okla. — A 46-year-old man is in custody Friday after a home invasion and subsequent standoff with police, authorities said.
According to the Sapulpa Police Department, the suspect initially broke into a residence in the area of West Taft Avenue and Shaw Drive around 1 or 2 p.m. Friday, allegedly assaulting the homeowner with brass knuckles and causing injury before fleeing the scene. The incident quickly escalated as the suspect then moved to a second home occupied by four other individuals.
Standoff Ends with Suspect Found in Flooded Basement
The hours-long situation concluded with the suspect’s arrest after SWAT team members breached the second residence.

Police stated that the four individuals inside the second residence did not cooperate with investigators, but were not involved in the initial assault. Two people exited the home first, followed by the remaining two, and none of them sustained injuries during the incident.
Negotiators attempted to persuade the suspect to exit the home voluntarily, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Around 5 p.m., the Sapulpa SWAT team executed a breach of the residence.
The suspect was discovered in the basement, which was partially flooded with approximately three feet of water. He was subsequently taken into custody by authorities.
Police have not yet released the suspect’s identity. He has been charged with first-degree burglary and assault with a deadly weapon.
