Federal agents and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes on Sunday, August 2, 2026, after plainclothes agents reported him monitoring security preparations ahead of a planned presidential visit.
Suspicious Activity at the Rancho Palos Verdes Golf Course

Federal agents reported the suspicious individual
to local sheriff’s deputies stationed nearby at the Lomita Sheriff’s Station. Deputies responded to the golf course around 3:30 p.m. and detained Taele. During the initial contact, authorities found a 16-round magazine loaded with hollow-point ammunition in his pants pocket.
A subsequent search of Taele’s vehicle, which was parked in a lot on the golf course property, uncovered further weaponry. Deputies subsequently searched Taele’s vehicle and recovered a loaded pistol with a round chambered, along with an additional loaded magazine containing hollow-point ammunition,
the Sheriff’s Department stated.
Weapons Cache Discovered at the Suspect’s Downey Residence
Following the weekend arrest at the golf course, detectives with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Joint Terrorism Task Force obtained a search warrant for Taele’s home in Downey. Investigators executed the warrant on Monday, August 3, 2026, citing the potential security implications
of the suspect’s behavior.
Inside the Downey residence, law enforcement officers recovered a significant trove of weapons and tactical gear. The recovered items included an illegally modified AR-platform rifle, a 1911 .45-caliber pistol, an AR-platform upper receiver, body armor, high-capacity magazines, and bulk quantities of pistol and rifle ammunition. Investigators also seized two radio-signal devices and multiple notebooks containing concerning statements.
Law enforcement officials noted that the nature of the remarks found inside the notebooks remains unclear.
Legal Proceedings and Prior Investigations
Taele was booked on suspicion of carrying a concealed firearm and possession of armor-piercing or otherwise prohibited ammunition. At the time of his arrest at the golf course, authorities learned he was already under investigation by the El Segundo Police Department in connection with a strong-arm robbery that occurred in November 2025.
While investigators presented the case to the district attorney’s office for criminal charges, the Sheriff’s Department emphasized that no credible threat to the community had been identified. Officials noted that the incident underscores the importance of vigilance and strong partnerships among local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
Context of Security Concerns Around Presidential Visits
The weekend arrest occurred just days before President Donald Trump was scheduled to arrive in Southern California to speak at a Republican National Committee dinner hosted at the Rancho Palos Verdes property. The visit marked the president’s first official trip to the state since January 2025, when he traveled to Los Angeles following local wildfires.
Security surrounding the golf course property has faced scrutiny following previous incidents. In March, an Arizona man wearing a ballistic vest and carrying two handguns and a loaded rifle inspired by the Batman villain the Joker was arrested near the same golf club after running through traffic. Federal and local authorities continue to review security protocols as high-profile political visits take place across the region.
