Police have arrested and jailed an AIADMK executive in a case of throwing shoes at former Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy’s vehicle.
Many members of the AIADMK and AIADMK paid tributes to the late former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa at her memorial on Beach Road on the 5th. At that time there was a commotion in the area due to the tussle between the AIADMK and the AIADMK. Meanwhile, opposition leader and AIADMK co-ordinator Edappadi Palanisamy was attacked by a group of people throwing sandals at his car.
Following this, Maran, a member of the AIADMK, lodged a complaint at the Anna Square police station alleging that the AIADMK-winner was responsible for the attack. Based on the complaint, the Anna Square police have registered a case under Section 294 (b) – obscene swearing, 148-rioting with terrorist weapons, 323- injuring and 506 (1) – intimidation.
Anna Square police have arrested Mariappan (38), a resident of Tiruvallikeni Lock town and treasurer of the UPFA 114th ward, in connection with the incident. Police have arrested Mariappan and remanded him in judicial custody. Police said they were looking for others involved in the violence and that Marimuthu had been arrested based on video evidence.
