Oshawa police are searching for a second suspect in connection wiht a fatal stabbing early Tuesday morning, adding to a year that’s already seen a troubling rise in violent crime in the Durham Region. The incident marks the ninth homicide in the area so far this year.

A man is dead and two suspects are involved following a violent encounter near Park Road South and John Street.

  • Jeremy Russell,44,was pronounced dead in hospital after being found with multiple stab wounds.
  • Nicholas Robbins, 33, of Oshawa, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
  • Michael Waterman, 44, of Oshawa, remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.
  • Police say all three men were known to each other.
  • Waterman is also wanted in Peterborough for a separate homicide.

The stabbing occurred around 4:15 a.m. near the intersection of Park Road South and john Street, according to police. A passerby alerted emergency services after discovering a man suffering from important injuries.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later identified as 44-year-old Jeremy Russell. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

One Suspect in Custody, Another Sought

Police quickly apprehended Nicholas Robbins, 33, of Oshawa, and have charged him with second-degree murder. Though, a second suspect, 44-year-old Michael Waterman, also of Oshawa, remains at large.

Police are urging anyone who spots Waterman not to approach him, as he is considered armed and dangerous. Individuals are advised to contact 911 immediately if they have facts regarding his whereabouts.

investigators have stated that Russell, Robbins, and Waterman were all acquainted with one another, suggesting the incident wasn’t random. Detectives are asking Waterman to seek legal counsel and turn himself in to authorities.

Waterman is also wanted by the Peterborough Police Service in connection with a separate second-degree murder that occurred on December 6, resulting in the death of a 33-year-old man. This adds another layer of urgency to the search.

Anyone assisting Waterman in evading police could face criminal charges under the Criminal Code of Canada, authorities warned.
