jpnn.com – NYON – The Champions League drawing for the quarter-final phase will be held at the House of European Football, Nyon, Switzerland, Friday (15/3) evening, at around 18.00 WIB.
Small balls bearing the words of eight contestants, namely Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Barceona, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City, Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid will be shaken to find their partners.
“This is an open draw. There are no seeds and no protection for national teams,” read a statement from the UEFA Champions League.
That means teams from the same country, such as Atletico, Barcelona and Real Madrid or Man City and Arsenal, as well as Bayern and Dortmund could clash in the Top 8.
In the last 16 draw, the seeded team (group winner) and teams from one country were protected.
“The first team drawn will play its first match at home, against the second team drawn. This procedure is repeated with the remaining balls in the bowl to complete the quarter-final pairs,” read a statement from UCL.
“For the semi-final draw, four balls containing slips of paper marked ‘Quarter-final winner 1’ through ‘Quarter-final winner 4’ are placed in the large center bowl and shuffled. The first and second ball draws determine the first semifinal pair, the first ball drawing represents the home team for the first leg. This procedure is repeated with the remaining balls in the bowl to complete the semifinal pairs.”
With this open draw, there is a possibility that defending champions Man City will meet Arsenal, or Man City vs Real Madrid.
With the Champions League drawing in an open format, there is a possibility that Man City will meet Arsenal, or Real Madrid vs Barcelona.
