Man Escapes Custody at Mercy Hospital South; St. Louis County Police Conduct Search

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) – The St. Louis County Police Department is on the lookout for a man who managed to escape custody at Mercy Hospital South. The incident has prompted Lindbergh Schools to implement lockout procedures as a precautionary measure.

The escape was reported early this morning in the 10000 block of Kennerly Road. Tommy Wayne Boyd, a 45-year-old inmate, fled from the hospital after being transported there from the Potosi Correctional Facility for treatment. He was last seen just before 4 a.m. by hospital personnel.

Surveillance footage reveals Boyd leaving the hospital premises on foot, heading in an unknown direction. Police have intensified their efforts to locate him, even going as far as searching inside cars and utilizing a drone to survey the area from above.

Officials have described Boyd as being 5′7″ tall, weighing 154 pounds, with balding hair and a beard. At the time of his escape, he was wearing a black sweatshirt, black jacket, and orange slippers. Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution, as he should be considered dangerous. It remains unclear if he is armed.

Boyd is currently serving a 30-year sentence in the Missouri Department of Corrections for statutory sodomy. Now that he has evaded custody, the search for him intensifies.

In response to the situation, Lindbergh Schools has implemented lockout procedures. While classes are still in session, exterior doors will remain locked, and additional security measures have been put in place during student arrival. Police presence can be seen outside the school, with officers searching vehicles and a drone surveilling the parking lot.

Mercy South, where the escape occurred, released a statement regarding the incident. According to the hospital, there was no confrontation and no one was injured during the escape. Video surveillance footage, which has been shared with the police, confirmed the escapee’s departure from the hospital. Although there is no evidence indicating that Boyd is still on campus, Mercy South has decided to conduct a thorough search of all its buildings to ensure the safety of everyone involved. The hospital continues to cooperate with the St. Louis County Police in their search and investigation.

Authorities are urging anyone who sees Boyd to immediately contact 911. Residents in the area are advised to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings.
