A man in Malaysia went viral on social media after posting a video in which he cuts in half a 19-liter water jug that he filled for seven years with 50-cent ringgit coins. According to the exchange rate this Friday (22), one ringgit is worth practically the same as one real.

In an interview with the Mstar portal, Muhammad Hafiz Abdul Hamid, 30, said that he started saving coins in 2016 and that saving money became a hobby.

The video published on the internet had more than 4.4 million views and shows that the task of opening the gallon and counting all the money was more complex than Muhammad expected.

He tried to get the coins out by turning the container upside down, but, in addition to being very heavy, the quantity of coins was so much that they blocked the exit.

The solution found was to cut the plastic packaging in half with a hand saw.

After managing to access the saved money, the man had help from his wife, brother and sister-in-law. Together, the four of them took three hours to count the coins, which yielded a little more than R$5,600. The next step was to exchange the value for notes. It was necessary to go to six bank branches.

Muhammad used all the money to buy an iPhone 14, outright. He considers that it was worth saving the coins for so long to purchase the device, but reveals that he will not repeat the feat.
