the essentials in brief

  • In the US state of Pennsylvania, police found the remains of a man.
  • He had bought the bones, skin and organs on Facebook.
  • For the prosecutor, it is the “most bizarre case” of his career.

The police probably didn’t expect that when they searched a house in the US state of Pennsylvania. In Jeremy Pauley’s (40) basement, she found several large buckets filled with human skin and organs. In addition, the resident of Enola possessed three complete human skeletons and up to 20 human skulls.

Anyone who now suspects the worst is wrong. Pauley is by no means a serial killer, but describes himself as a “curio collector”. He claims to have bought the body parts via Facebook, the prosecutor reports in a statement.

“It’s one of the most bizarre cases I’ve seen in 33 years as a prosecutor,” said Seán M. McCormack. “Then I thought I’ve seen everything – then something like this happens.”

Bought body parts on Facebook

According to the media release, human hearts, brains, livers, lungs and skin were found in Pauley’s basement. Also among the human remains was a child’s lower jaw and a skull with hair attached.

Police discovered that the 40-year-old had bought his “curiosities” on Facebook from a woman from the state of Arkansas. This is said to have stolen the body parts from a morgue. Pauley paid a total of around $4,000 for the body parts.

Now the self-declared collector has to answer for desecration of corpses and possession of stolen objects. He is currently free after posting $50,000 bail.
