U.S. authorities: “It does not affect the safety of Trump or event attendees.”
Local media, including CNN and Axios, reported on the 13th (local time) that a suspect in illegal possession of a firearm and a fake ID was arrested by the police near former President Donald Trump‘s campaign rally, the Republican presidential candidate.
According to reports, the man, identified as Bem Miller (49), was arrested the previous day near former President Trump’s rally in Coachella, California, on charges of illegal possession of a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and a large-capacity magazine, according to Riverside County security. The government office announced.
The sheriff’s office said in a statement that Miller, who lives in Las Vegas, was arrested by police at a checkpoint near the campaign site before 5 p.m. Miller was reportedly riding a black SUV at the time.
At the time of his arrest, Miller claimed to be a journalist and had “VIP status,” but police confirmed that the vehicle he was riding in was unregistered and that he was in possession of several fake passports.
“There was no significant resistance during Miller’s arrest, and he was booked into the J. Benoit Detention Center on charges of possession of a firearm and possession of a large capacity magazine,” the statement said.
In a joint statement, the U.S. Department of Justice, Secret Service (SS), and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) explained that “this incident did not impact the safety of former President Trump or those attending the event.”
CNN reported that Miller was later released on $5,000 bail.
Candidate Trump was attacked with a gun during an outdoor rally held in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, and a second assassination attempt was made targeting him at a golf course owned by Trump in West Palm Beach, Florida, on the 15th of last month.
