A man opened fire on Thursday at a Mercedes car factory in Sindelfingen, southwestern Germany, killing two people, police said, adding that a suspect had been arrested.

“A 53-year-old man entered the factory at around 7:45 am (2:45 am GMT) and shot two people,” Ludwigsburg police said in a statement.

Security at the site neutralized the suspect inside the factory and handed him over to the police. The individual was arrested without resistance, authorities said.

Deadly victims, two 44-year-old men, couldn’t resist their injuries and died. Police said on Twitter that there were no other injuries. The motive for the attack is being investigated.

In a statement, Mercedes-Benz confirmed that two people had died and that both the victims and the suspect were employees of a third-party supplier.

“We are deeply shaken and saddened by the tragic news this morning in Sindelfingen. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and all colleagues at the factory,” the company added.
