jpnn.com – A man lost his job after asking Lionel Messi to apologise following alleged racist remarks by a number of Argentine players.
The figure is Argentina’s Deputy Minister of Sports Julio Garro.
Launch Tyc SportsGarro said that Messi and the President of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) need to apologize publicly for the reprehensible actions of a number of Argentine players during the celebration of winning the 2024 Copa America.
“I think the captain of the (Argentina) national team should come forward and apologize for this incident, as should the AFA president,” said Garro.
Garro’s remarks drew strong reactions in the Argentine government.
Garro was then removed as Argentina’s deputy minister of youth and sports, just 10 days before the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“The government did not ask him to make that statement, and to act in this way towards the Argentine National Team, World Champions and two-time Copa America champions.”
“For this reason, Julio Garro is removed from the position of Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports,” read the official statement from the Argentine Presidency.
