Sixth Arrest Made in Murder Examination of Teen Ellis Cox

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of 19-year-old Ellis Cox, who was fatally shot near his home in Aintree last year. This latest arrest, made on Tuesday, September 16, brings the total number of individuals detained in connection with the case to six.
Details of the Arrest and Ongoing Investigation
The suspect, from Thornton, is currently in police custody and will be questioned by detectives regarding the murder of Ellis Cox and possession of a firearm. This progress follows the arrest of a 32-year-old man from Croxteth five days prior. authorities have confirmed that the other arrested individuals remain on conditional bail as the investigation continues.
The tragic incident occurred on June 23, 2024, at approximately 10:50 PM. Ellis was cycling with four friends near the Liverpool Loop Line – locally known as the Ralla – close to Taskers on the Liver Industrial Estate when they were confronted by a group of individuals.
According to police reports, “one to three males on two electric bikes” approached the group and opened fire, discharging three shots in the direction of Ellis and his friends.Ellis, attempting to escape the attack on a pedal bike, was struck in the back and succumbed to his injuries.
Pattern of Violence in the Area
Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath previously stated that the shooting occurred amidst a concerning pattern of violence in the Walton and Aintree areas over the preceding 12 to 18 months. Investigators have also revealed that the self-loading pistol used in Ellis’s murder was also linked to a seperate shooting incident at a flat on Willowdale Road in Walton earlier this year.

Detective Chief Inspector mcgrath emphasized, “our investigation continues at pace and we are persistent to get justice for Ellis’ family.Although we have made another arrest in connection with this incident, I want to urge anyone with information to come forward. We’re continuing to appeal for any information from anyone who is yet to come forward, the smallest detail of which could be vital to our inquiries.”
