Cuba’s Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodrguez, reported that the country’s embassy in Washington was the target of an attack on Sunday night with two Molotov cocktails, which the chancellor called a “terrorist attack.”

“The Cuban embassy in the United States was the target of a terrorist attack by an individual who threw two Molotov cocktails,” said Rodrguez on the X network (formerly Twitter). In the message, he informs that the employees of the diplomatic representation were not injured.

He also highlighted that Cuban authorities are investigating the details of the attack.

“The second violent attack against the diplomatic headquarters in Washington”, added the chancellor, in a reference to another incident that occurred in April 2020, when a man shot at the Cuban embassy in the American capital.

Sunday’s attack happened just hours after President Miguel Daz-Canel returned to Havana. The head of state spent the week in New York, where he participated in the United Nations General Assembly and other activities with Cuban supporters in the United States.

In New York, demonstrations were also organized by Cubans living in the United States against Daz-Canel’s presence at the UN Assembly.

“Anti-Cuban groups resort to terrorism when they feel impunity, something that #Cuba has repeatedly warned American authorities about,” said Rodrguez on X network.

In April 2020, the Cuban foreign minister summoned the then US chargé d’affaires in Havana, Mara Tekach, to express her “protest” against what she called a “terrorist attack” against the embassy.

The shots on that occasion left deep marks on the entrance columns, broke a post and several windows and frames at the front of the building.
