San Miguel. The Animal Welfare Institute (IBA) and the National Civil Police (PNC) have captured a man who, in an act of cruelty, denied veterinary care to his pet and left it to die in the Colonia Milagro de la Paz in San Miguel.

According to investigations, the dog Kira suffered weeks and even months of confinement, without access to food, water or medical care. Neighbors of the now detained man said that this man would leave for up to 15 days or a month and leave Kira locked up without food or water.

In response to this act of cruelty, the president of the Animal Welfare Institute, Guillermo Hasbún, declared the following on his Twitter account: “We have achieved the arrest of an individual who left his pet suffering for more than three years. The dog was left in a dying state, without receiving any type of veterinary care; he put her in a sack and left her to die”.

This inhumane act occurred in San Miguel and in light of this, the President of the Animal Welfare Institute indicated that these intolerant acts will not be allowed in the institution.

The arrest of the person responsible for this fact is based on article 261-A of the Penal Code, which establishes prison sentences of two to four years for those who, by action or omission, cause or generate mistreatment of animals.

IBA works tirelessly to ensure that cases of violence against animals do not go unpunished and that justice is done on behalf of innocent victims like Kira, indicates an official statement from the institute.
