The Assembly members of Manabí have requested the appearance of Ministers Palencia and Loffredo at a plenary session on July 23.

Interior Minister Mónica Palencia and Defense Minister Gian Carlo Loffredo are in the crosshairs of 11 legislators from Manabí, who are asking them to account for the rise in violent crimes and insecurity in that province.

Thus, this Monday, legislators presented a request to change the agenda for session 947, which the plenary session of the National Assembly will hold, virtually, on Tuesday, July 23.

The request arises from the latest acts of violence that have been recorded in recent days, despite the strong military and police presence that has increased in Manabí since the end of June. One of these incidents was the murder of a married couple in Manta.

“They should submit a detailed report on the results obtained by the Security Block that is operating in the province,” states the motion submitted by the legislators.

Among the signatories of the request to change the agenda are legislators from various parties:

Katiusca Miranda, Gabriela Molina, Lenin Barreto, Fernando Cedeño, Raisa Corral, from the Citizen Revolution.

Jamilton Intriago and Carlos Vera, from the Social Christian Party.

Jaime Moreno and Viviana Zambrao, from the Construye Movement.

Maria Mercedes Erbs and Adriana Garcia, Good People.

“The security situation in Manabi is of the utmost importance and deserves the priority attention of this Assembly,” the assembly members said in a statement on July 22.

The list of legislators who support the call for ministers does not include the legislator of the ruling National Democratic Action (ADN), Valentina Centeno.
