MAP distinguished itself in the category of “Best column” in the written press, with the article “I will call her Houcine: Story of a life saved in the belly of a survivor” by its author Mohamed Aswab.

The article tells the story of Lakbira, a resident of the douar Assaiss (nearly 96 km from Taroudant), a survivor of the Al Haouz earthquake who was brought home safe and sound, still carrying a living fetus in her womb.

It describes the tenacity of this woman, from the rescue attempts by the emergency teams to her transfer to the surgical field hospital set up by the Royal Armed Forces in the commune of Tafingoult, where she underwent an ultrasound which revealed that the fetus, a seven-month-old male, was in good health, which she would later name Houcine.

The paper also highlights the efforts made by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the services of the Ministry of the Interior, the FAR, the Auxiliary Forces, the Civil Protection, the Royal Gendarmerie and the rescue and health services to help the victims of this earthquake, which shook the region on September 8, 2023.

The National Broadcasting and Television Company (SNRT) won the Arab Media Excellence Award in the “Best Radio Investigation” category, with the story of a child who lost his sheep and his shelter, following the Al Haouz earthquake.

The Arab Media Excellence Award, in its eighth edition, was organized this year under the theme “Media of Crises, Disasters and Risks.”

The head of the Arab League’s media and communications department, Ahmed Rachid Khattabi, indicated on this occasion that the general secretariat of the Arab League had launched this award in 2016 to support and encourage the efforts of Arab journalists, and to highlight their constructive contributions to highlighting important issues for the Arab nation.

He explained that the award, which recognizes media professionals in four categories (television, radio, print media and digital media), aims to highlight distinguished media models in the Arab world and encourage healthy emulation.

Mr. Khattabi further indicated that this year’s edition saw the participation of more than 100 works in these different categories, which were submitted to a commission where Member States are represented, stressing that the Prize, over the course of the seven previous editions, has seen the consecration of works with greater participation of women, young people and people with disabilities.
