Manchester City Claims Seventh Community Shield in Thrilling Penalty Shootout Victory Over Manchester United

by time news

Manchester City won the Community Shield, their seventh in history and the first since 2019 after three consecutive lost finals.

The “Citizens” defeated their unfriendly city rivals, United, 7-6 in the penalty shootout after the regular time ended in a 1-1 draw.

City was superior but missed several opportunities and saw a goal from the “Red Devils” (by Bruno Fernandes) disallowed, while Rashford hit the crossbar of Ederson in the 75th minute, and Garnacho eventually gave the lead to Erik ten Hag’s team.

City increased the pressure and managed to equalize in the 89th minute with a header from Bernardo Silva, sending the match to penalties as there was no extra time.

Onana saved Bernardo Silva’s penalty, but United did not take advantage of the opportunity, as Ederson did the same with Sancho’s (third) penalty, while Evans missed, in contrast to Akanji who successfully converted the last penalty.
