New season in the Premier League, same… habits for Manchester United. The “Red Devils” suffered a defeat with 2-1 at Brighton’s home ground, marking their first loss of points in just the second round of the new championship.
Danny Welbeck opened the scoring for the “Seagulls,” Diallo equalized temporarily, before Joao Pedro scored in injury time to finalize the score at 2-1.
The match had a fast pace from the start, with both teams creating several opportunities. In the 32nd minute, the hosts took the lead when Joao Pedro sent in a cross that went past everyone and reached Mitoma, who with a parallel pass found Welbeck, who scored into an empty net to make it 1-0 for the hosts.
In the second half, United entered determined to turn the situation around. In fact, just after an hour of play, they managed to equalize. In the 71st minute, United scored again, but the goal was disallowed for offside, as Garnacho’s shot into an empty net hit the knee of Zirkzi, who was in an offside position.
The “Red Devils” pressed for the winning goal, but it was Brighton that ultimately found it, “shocking” Ten Hag’s team. In the 90+5th minute, Antigra delivered a sweet cross from the left, and Joao Pedro, unmarked, headed the ball past Onana for Brighton’s 2-1.
