Mandatory two-factor authentication will appear on “Gosuslug”

by time news

The ministry plans to introduce mandatory two-factor identification on the Gosuslugi portal in 2022 in order to protect portal users from fraud, Izvestia reported, citing the ministry’s press service. They noted that now users can turn on such a function themselves in order to confirm their entry not only with a password, but also using SMS, but very few people do this.

Sources of the publication, close to the Ministry of Digital Science, said that more than 100 million profiles have already been created on the portal, but one-factor identification is required to enter 90% of them. This means that most Russians protect their personal data only with a password, usually a weak one. The interlocutors of the publication clarified that interest in user accounts is growing from fraudsters who can sell a person’s personal data, take out a loan for him or conduct transactions with his property.

On the eve of the press service of the government announced the appearance in 2022 on the portal “Gosuslugi” more than 100 regional services that previously could be obtained only on local portals or those that were not provided online. Starting next year, Russians, in particular, will be able to issue several benefits for children through the portal, conduct a technical inspection of self-propelled vehicles and other types of equipment, register property rights, file personal income tax returns, and obtain various licenses and permits.
