A “dangerous” profile

The 42-year-old suspect has a “dangerous criminological profile (…) He must be arrested before another tragedy”, declared the public prosecutor of Angers Éric Bouillard during a press conference, specifying that around fifty gendarmes were mobilized on this hunt north of Angers (Maine-et-Loire). In a search notice released Monday evening, the Angers prosecutor’s office specified that the suspect is 1.85m tall, is “of mixed race type, athletic build with curly black hair”.

The wanted man is about 1.85m tall, is of mixed race, has an athletic build, specifies the Angers prosecutor’s office. DR

The forty-year-old was serving two sentences at the Argentan detention center, one criminal and one correctional, one of twelve years for attempted murder by a spouse or partner and a three-year correctional sentence for aggravated property damage.

According to the first elements of the investigation, the respondent, benefiting from an exit permit to obtain administrative documents, took a train after his release from prison in Argentan and would have reached Angers on June 20.

Two dead and a woman assaulted

Éric Bouillard was able to detail a chronology of the criminal course of the man, suspected of having killed two people, and assaulted a third. On June 22, in Angers, a first victim is discovered. “We will find a woman in her apartment in the evening” who “carries marks on her neck” and “it will be established that she suffered strangulation with her bare hands which led to her death”.

The victim’s children were “taken care of” and are “away, far from Angers”, said the magistrate. The suspect was in the same prison as the ex-companion of this woman. She had also visited him in prison in the visiting room, according to the prosecutor.

The man, from Reunion, is also suspected of “attempted murder” on a woman during his run, said Éric Bouillard. On June 28, further north, in Chailland (Mayenne), “a 26-year-old woman who becomes pregnant will discover that someone has entered her home and will be the victim of an attempted theft of her vehicle and violence. extremely serious, an attempt at strangulation”. This victim “will be saved by the intervention of a third party who sees that things are going wrong and who will end up intervening”, according to the magistrate.

The criminal will flee and take refuge in a vast wood, escaping the device put in place by the police to arrest him. Saturday evening, around 7 p.m., a vehicle was discovered burning in Cantenay-Épinard (Maine-et-Loire), north of Angers. “The vehicle in question belongs to a person who will be identified on Sunday morning and who lives in Chailland”.

The owner, a 72-year-old man, former mechanic of the town and municipal councilor, will be discovered dead at his home. “The assumption that we make today is that the owner of the car will find his attacker when he returns home,” said the magistrate.

Intensive research

Intensive searches are carried out to find the fugitive. According to Colonel Tanguy Landais, commander of the Maine-et-Loire gendarmerie group, 52 gendarmerie personnel are already engaged and more than 400 properties have been checked.

“As I speak to you, the searches are very active in the northern area of Angers,” said the magistrate at the end of the afternoon, specifying that a call for witnesses was going to be broadcast. “I invite the witnesses not to intervene and to contact the police,” said the magistrate Éric Bouillard, asking the inhabitants of the sector to lock their doors.
