Manikandan, a college student from Ramanathapuram district, was not attacked and killed by the police, according to a post-mortem examination. Tamarai Kannan said.

Madurai:

Manikandan (21), son of Lakshmanakumar, hails from a waterfowl near Mudukulathur. A college student, he went on a two-wheeler on the evening of December 4 on the Paramakudi-Keelathuval road. Manikandan’s vehicle was then stopped by the Down Police who were engaged in a vehicle search. But Manikandan did not stop and was chased and caught.

They took him to the police station and interrogated him. Then the bell rang. Manikandan fell ill at home at midnight. He was rushed to Mudukulathur Government Hospital. Doctors who examined him said he was already dead.

Relatives and members of the public staged various protests claiming that Manikandan was killed in a police raid.

Manikandan was handed over to his mother and cousin and taken home after being interrogated at the police station. There are police CCTV footage related to this.

The post-mortem examination of Manikandan was conducted by a panel of forensic experts as per the order of the Madurai branch of the High Court. It has been revealed that Manikandan died after drinking poison. By this he did not attack the police and die.
