Imphal : The situation in Manipur has worsened once again. Students marched towards the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday over law and order. More than 50 students were injured in the encounter between students and security forces. Internet services have been suspended for five days in the entire state. Curfew has been imposed in three districts. Meanwhile, the Center has directed the deployment of two new battalions of CRPF in Manipur, which will have about 2,000 soldiers. The students demand that the state’s DGP and Security Advisor have failed to deal with the deteriorating law and order. For this reason, they should be removed from their posts. They were marching towards the Raj Bhavan to pressurize for this demand.

Tear gas shells were fired on the protesting students

Police said that the protesters raised slogans during this time. They threw stones and marbles at the security personnel, due to which the policemen had to fire tear gas shells to disperse them. In view of the protest, indefinite curfew has been imposed in Imphal East and Imphal West districts.

Internet services suspended in 5 districts of the valley

The Manipur government on Tuesday evening issued a revised order, saying the suspension of internet services in view of the students’ agitation will be applicable only in five valley districts in the state. Earlier, the state government had issued a notification suspending internet services for five days across the state. The hill districts are not under the purview of the order, officials said. “The temporary suspension of internet and mobile data services, including leased line, VSAT, broadband and VPN services, within the territorial jurisdiction of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching districts of Manipur will remain in place for 5 days,” the latest home department order said.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh said, ‘The government has decided to shut down the internet to prevent hate speeches by miscreants and incitement of violence through social media.’ It is feared that some people may use social media to make the situation in the state violent. In view of this, the administration has shut down the internet.

Appeal to the center to take security in hand

The Kuki rebellion in the state remains a challenge for the police administration. Chief Minister N Biren Singh met Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya and apprised him of the current law and order situation in the state. Kuki militants are constantly targeting common citizens in the state. So far, many people have lost their lives due to this. The Chief Minister also told the Governor that if the Central Government wants, it can take central security in its hands by using Article 355 of the Constitution.

Students spent the night in the camp

Meanwhile, hundreds of students from various schools and colleges spent the night in camps set up at Khwairamband women’s market in Imphal. “We have given Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya a 24-hour deadline to respond to our six demands. We will decide our course of action after the deadline is over,” student leader Choudhary Victor Singh said.
