The Kuki community fears renewed violence if the Assam Rifles are withdrawn.

Ethnic violence first erupted in Manipur on May⁣ 3, 2023, resulting in the tragic deaths ⁣of over 220 people and displacing over 50,000. Despite ongoing tensions, there is a​ growing demand for a political solution to end the conflict. ‍Some demand the creation of a Union Territory with an assembly for the hills.

Call for Prioritization

Recently, Rashtriya Swayamsevak⁢ Sangh chief Mohan‍ Bhagwat expressed concern over the lack of peace in⁣ Manipur​ and called for its urgent resolution.
