The colorful Plovdiv resident collected more than BGN 2.5 million in donations for Ukraine and Turkey, he does not stop stabbing the political enemy with “long” letters

“A big thorn in your rear” – this is how their colleague from “Democratic Bulgaria” Manol Peykov describes himself, addressing the violent-tempered MPs from “Vazrazhdane”. With a violent temper in the plenary hall, he does not yield to them at all.

A not quite literary expression by a man of letters. Peikov and his famous mother Bojana Apostolova are the owners of one of the leading publishing houses that supports native authors.

And although he is among the colorful people of Plovdiv, Peikov gained fame by entering politics.

I am chubby, sometimes shaggy, squinty-eyed, the 53-year-old representative described himself. But never drunk! He was adamant about this after once again on Thursday Vazrazhdane insisted that he needed a drager. The war between them is proverbial, but the MP from the DB conducts it soberly. He is not ready to get drunk because of politics, but he does not run away even from a physical confrontation.

It was reached on June 1, 2023 after

melee in the hall, from which he came out with a skinned face

And with an accusation that he broke the glasses of Veselin Veshev from “Vazrazhdane”. Then, for a whole month, the quaestors had to defend the tribune from Kostadinov’s people, who surrounded it and blocked the speeches, if Peykov’s colleagues from PP-DB Yavor Bozhankov or Nastimir Ananiev headed towards it.

However, his strength as a literary person should be in his words, and the publisher skillfully “hits” with them. His speech addressed to the leader of “Vazrazhdane”, with which he returned Kostadinov’s insult – that DB meant “Informant Bulgaria” was remembered for a long time.

“I can always call you Koceto Kusopishkov – I mean a person who writes in short letters.

My imagination is endless.”

Peykov answered him then, and a modern burger chain even released KK fries. Enraged, Kostadinov declared Peykov a “simpleton and a snitch” and DB – the “scum of Bulgarian politics”.

For these two tricks, Manol Peykov was given two punishments by the chairman of the National Assembly – a remark and a reprimand.

However, yesterday’s incident is not like that. During Kostadinov’s speech from the rostrum, Peikov began to shout from his seat: “Time!”, meaning that the time given to him for speaking had expired. The party leader accused him of being drunk, his deputies marched threateningly towards him, but were overtaken by the quaestors on the alert for hot situations. They invited the MPs from both groups to come out and understand each other outside the plenary hall. Iskren Mitev and Katya Paneva also came to help. After that, the quaestors escorted Peykov and his colleagues from “Vazrazhdane” to the exit, so that there would be no collision. On the cameras, it looked like they were taking him out. “I told them: ‘Calm down, people, let’s go outside and drink coffee,'” Peykov himself explained the scene.

“I have many flaws and vices, I am aware of them, I am already of a serious age. But no one in my life has ever seen me drunk, because I never drank,” he added emotionally.

And indeed in life his image is far from that of a robber. Book publisher, father of Bojana (named after Grandma, of course) and above all the person who throws himself into all kinds of charitable causes. Peikov’s case is unique here – he collects millions of donations in… his personal account. Very atypical in today’s times of collapsed trust in politicians and causes. However, people trust him and send the money to his personal account, from there he delivers it to those in need.

Thus, Peykov collected an incredible nearly 1 million and 400 thousand BGN for Ukraine (according to data from the year). With them, over 500 electric generators were bought and donated, some of which went to Odessa Pedagogical University. Many of the ethnic Bulgarians in Ukraine study there.

For comparison, the Bulgarian state donated one, and the EU – 1000 generators. Since December 18, he has collected over BGN 41,000 for portable batteries, uniforms, thermal underwear, tires, etc.

Pak Peikov collected BGN 1.3 million in aid for Turkey and Syria during the devastating earthquakes last January. He also made a buyback campaign and

restoration of Dimitar Talev’s house in Prilep

He almost became a candidate for mayor of the PP-DB in Plovdiv, but withdrew in the name of coalition peace and let the partners nominate their own contender.

Manol Peykov: Change the supports, people! Yes, I’m fat, cross-eyed and shaggy, but I wear French perfume, not Troinoy. And I don’t drink at all

– Mr. Peykov, what happened in the plenary hall?

– Some of the colleagues from “Vazrazhdane”, who get fired up quickly, came and surrounded me. And the quaestors approached.

– Why were you surrounded by “Vazrazhdane”? You often challenge them…

– I challenge them, I give them back what they do to others. If one of us goes up to the podium, because in general the people of our political space are more polite, when we come up front to speak, they constantly shout and interrupt us. And I use this opportunity to counter. When their time is up, I just don’t give them the peace – I say time is up because it’s within my rights. I do it quite deliberately and purposefully.

– You reproach them for shouting from a place, and you do the same…

– Yes, because with people like them, this is the only way to deal with it. Because I know it works, and that the next time they have to yell at me, they’ll think twice. Every action causes a reaction according to the laws of thermodynamics, we know them.

And they came and surrounded me, the quaestors pounced. I told them: “Calm down guys, let’s go outside and drink coffee”. To Zlati Zlatev and Chorbov. They said, “Yeah, well, we’ll meet outside.” And together with the quaestors we went out. But the quaestors didn’t take me out, it was on my initiative, that’s not serious.

– And how did your conversation go on outside? did you drink coffee

– It turned out that this was actually a sneaky plan on their part, because the moment we went out, I saw on the screen that their third person – Slavcho, came to the stand to announce that I was drunk. But he did it in my absence, it turns out I was brought out on purpose so I couldn’t replicate it. I immediately entered the hall and replicated it.

I have a lot of flaws and vices, I’m aware of them, I’m already at a serious age. This is not one of them. I just don’t drink. I do not drink! No one has ever seen me drunk in my life, because I never drank. Change the supports, people! There are things you can attack me for – cross-eyed, fat, shaggy, everything is valid and true, only the drunk thing is not true, because it cannot be.

– But I got the impression that there were other cases where you were accused of something similar. It is not the first time, even draggers have asked for you in the plenary hall.

– As I attack them, they are looking for something, digging to attack me. And since I have no visible vices, they begin to invent them. First they called me unwashed because I was shaggy. If you’re shaggy, you’re unwashed. But the fact that they use the Russian perfume “Troynoy” and I use elite French perfumes, they miss it. Anyway. The point is, these aren’t my flaws, others are. And these are their supports, and it is good not to reproduce them and to be as objective as possible.

– And your coffee with “Vazrazhdane” failed, didn’t it?

– The cafe failed because they lost interest the moment they realized they hadn’t outsmarted me. They didn’t really want to talk to me like they claimed. And they were just playing games, which shows that someone set them up to play those games. Which shows that I get under their skin and get very annoyed when someone gives them instructions on how to act and what to do. Which means I will continue to do the same.
