A fire broke out today at around 5 am in an apartment in Kolonaki, where the well-known sportswriter and former MP Manolis Mavrommatis and his wife Irini lived.
According to the fire department, the fire broke out shortly before 5 am in a second-floor apartment on Anagnostopoulou street
Both Manolis Mavrommatis and his wife were inside the apartment that was engulfed in flames. 12 firefighters with 3 vehicles attempted to extinguish the fire.
They are hospitalized in “Gennimatas”
According to information, Mr. Mavrommatis and his wife are being treated at “Gennimatas” hospital.
Specifically, Manolis Mavrommatis is hospitalized in the burn unit, while his wife is intubated in the intensive care unit.
The doctors of the hospital are conducting a second round of examinations for the two injured, while the medical announcement on the course of their health is awaited.
Immediate intervention of the Fire Department
Strong forces of the Fire Department rushed to the scene and managed to extricate them. What is worth noting is that when the fire broke out the couple was sleeping and narrowly escaped it, without the reasons for the fire breaking out in the apartment where they live having been made known.
From there, the response of the EMS was also very fast as within a few minutes an ambulance rushed to take the Mavrommatis couple to the hospital with a severe problem of shortness of breath.
