Manta Health Center was certified as a Mother and Child Friendly Health Establishment (ESAMyN) – Ministry of Public Health

Carmen Carrillo gave birth to her son on October 21, 2022 at the Type C Health Center in Manta, the same one that obtained the Mother and Child Friendly Establishment Certification (ESAMyN). For Carmen, the attention was excellent. “I experienced the process in talks and prenatal education classes. Now I have my son in my arms and I am very grateful, ”she expressed.

The ESAMyN health regulations are implemented in order to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity, through adequate care for pregnant women, humanized childbirth, support, protection, and promotion of breastfeeding.

The Type C Manta Health Center, of District 13D02, after a process of continuous improvement that guarantees comprehensive care for pregnant women, healthy child control and vaccination through comprehensive practices, becomes the eleventh establishment to obtain this certification in the country, with a score of 96.26%

Franklin Cárdenas, director of Certification of ACESS, pointed out that “the health center after evaluating, suggesting and obtaining exchanges with health personnel, today has the opportunity to offer patients, mothers, newborns and the community in general, a quality maternal and neonatal care.

Likewise, María Cristina Aldaz, Undersecretary of Care Networks of the Ministry of Health, highlighted that “the commitment of health personnel to recruit our pregnant women before 12 weeks, identifying all risk factors, and above all working with the community , affects a healthy population”.

This regulation that today is applied by the Type C Manta Health Center, offers the pregnant mother the freedom to choose the position at the time of delivery, the accompaniment of a family member, early bonding, rooming-in, constant training on the benefits of breastfeeding.

During 2022, this health home attended 300 deliveries, of which more than 99% were performed in a squatting, sitting or standing position. In January of this 2023, 30 deliveries have been attended, the position chosen in its entirety, was seated.
