Big disappointment this Sunday morning. While it is 9 a.m. in France, the first round of the World of Dance final, the Hip-Hop World Cup being held this weekend in Los Angeles in the United States, has just ended. The competition ends there for the Start 2 Step Academy in Mantes-la-Jolie, in the Yvelines.
“The group has assured, congratulates Frankwa, one of the two choreographers. The average age is 12 and they proved to us that they were professional, that we can count on them. They really took their role to heart, they are hard workers. We are proud of them. We were four points from qualifying… They are very sad. »
At the time of their passage, around 11 p.m. in France, around 300 people, in particular the other members of the association and their relatives, connected live on social networks to encourage them. The Start 2 Step Academy was the only one in the junior category to represent the tricolor during this final.
A dream trip for 50,000 euros
These dancers aged 10 to 15 obtained the promising score of 81.9/100, but that was not enough to send them to the next stage of this grand finale. The adventure does not end there, however. For ten days, these young Mantais who had, for the most part, never set foot on the American continent will benefit from an exceptional human experience.
“They will meet people from the hip-hop culture, young people like them, visit dance schools, participate in classes, resumes their coach. It was a very difficult trip to organize, we sometimes doubted but we went through with it. »
To finance plane tickets, accommodation and related costs, the troupe had a few months to raise the sum of 50,000 euros. It has therefore organized several dance shows in Mantois, made numerous demonstrations and solicited all local actors, public and private. Communities, merchants, their relatives: everyone contributed to make their great project possible.
And they don’t intend to stop there. “It created a significant craze, concludes Frankwa. This competition allowed us to prepare for the future. They are now expected in Italy in November and December, then in Spain in May and Majorca in July. The Start 2 Step Academy is therefore only in its infancy…
