Mantua – A bee sting, followed by stings from other insects, proved fatal for a well-known retired doctor from Mantua. Renzo Ongari, 77-year-old pediatrician who had worked for a long time at the hospital in Mantua, died on Sunday afternoon due to anaphylactic shock caused by a bee sting.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in his country house in Borgo Virgilio, where he was spending the afternoon with his family. Suddenly, the former pediatrician was stung by a bee without feeling any reaction. Immediately afterward, he was stung by other insects – perhaps other bees – and, at that point, according to some witnesses an allergic reaction has occurredThe man, immediately rescued by an ambulance from 118, was taken in very serious conditions at the emergency room of the Carlo Poma hospital in Mantua where he died.

He leaves behind his wife, two children and grandchildren. The funeral chapel is set up at the mortuary of the Carlo Poma hospital in Mantua. Ongari’s funeral will be celebrated on Wednesday 21st August at 10am at the church of San Barnaba in Mantua
