Sales of new cars in Russia in 2021 increased by 6% to 1.8 million units, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov told reporters, TASS reports. The volume of car production in Russia increased by 10% to 1.5 million units.

“According to preliminary data, in 2021, the production of cars in the Russian Federation exceeded 1.5 million units, which is 10% more than in 2020,” the minister said. According to him, the growth in the production of passenger cars in Russia amounted to about 8%.

Earlier today, AvtoVAZ presented its own assessment of the car market. According to the concern, the entire market of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (LCV) in Russia in 2021 grew by 5% to 1.68 million vehicles.

At the end of December last year, Manturov said that in 2022, a shortage of cars is expected to remain due to a global shortage of electronic components.

Following a recovery in car demand in 2021, the industry is running out of electronic parts, limiting supplies and forcing some car factories to shut down, the Association of European Businesses (AEB) said earlier. The shortage of chips will affect the situation in the market, according to some estimates, and the whole of 2022, the AEB predicted.
