New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Indian team, which returned with six medals from the recently concluded Paris Olympics, at his residence here on Thursday and during this, history-making shooter Manu Bhaker showed him her pistol, with which she won two bronze medals. The Indian men’s hockey team, which won the second consecutive bronze medal in the Paris Olympics, presented a stick to the Prime Minister which had the signatures of all the players. All the hockey players, including PR Sreejesh and captain Harmanpreet Singh, who retired after the Paris Olympics, posed for pictures with Modi. During this, the players had their bronze medals hanging around their necks.

Manu, who became the first Indian athlete to win two medals in a single Olympic Games since independence, was seen telling the Prime Minister about the pistol with which she won two bronze medals in the 10m air pistol and 10m air pistol mixed event in Paris. Sarabjot Singh, who won bronze medal with Manu in the 10m air pistol mixed event, and Swapnil Kusale, who won bronze medal in 50m rifle 3 position, also interacted with the Prime Minister.

Wrestler Aman Sehrawat, who won a bronze medal in men’s freestyle 57 kg, was also seen posing with Modi with an Indian jersey signed by him. Star javelin thrower and Paris Olympics silver medallist Neeraj Chopra has not yet returned home. He had gone to Germany to consult doctors regarding his back injury.

Modi addressed the members of the Indian contingent and also interacted with some of them, including badminton player Lakshya Sen, who finished fourth in the men’s singles at the Paris Olympics. Tokyo Olympics medallists Lovlina Borgohain (boxing) and Mirabai Chanu (weightlifting) were also among the sportspersons who met the Prime Minister. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha were also present on the occasion.
