The CDC reports that many people suffer from a meat allergy, alpha gal syndrome. This is caused by tick bites and also occurs in Germany.

Alpha Gal Syndrome has not been known for long, but appears to be widespread, at least in the United States. As the US disease control agency CDC announced on Thursday, between 2010 and 2022 there were more than 110,000 suspected cases of allergy to red meat, dairy products or other animal products such as gelatine, which according to current knowledge is caused in particular by tick bites.

According to estimates, however, up to 450,000 people in the USA could also have been affected, often without being aware of it.

Alpha-gal is a sugar molecule found in the flesh of many mammals, but not in humans.
