Cologne Wolfram Simon-Schröter is familiar with problems in business. In recent years, as head of the Zeitfracht Group, he has taken over numerous companies “in special situations”, including the fashion retailer Adler and the Leysieffer chocolate manufacturer. He has sold some of these companies, such as the ship manufacturer Opus Marine or the former Air Berlin subsidiary Leisure Cargo.

In an interview with the Handelsblatt, he describes what the entrepreneur is currently being offered as “rather sobering”. German insolvency law meanwhile offers very good options for going concern. But many companies would shy away from filing for bankruptcy for too long.

However, he does not want to speak of a structural crisis in Germany, rather of a structural change. Over the past few years, people have gotten used to the fact that things are always going up, says Simon-Schröter: “You have to be able to endure bad news and say to yourself: There is also a chance that things will get better again.”
