Many motorists do not need a tank discount

by time news

GWell meant, badly done and quite expensive at that: the federal government’s tank discount. All German motorists should get it, noticeably and immediately. Now it remains questionable whether the oil companies will pass on the tax cuts.

Instead of arguing about the excess profit tax, a different line of thought suggests itself: save from the outset by using fuel subsidies in a more targeted manner.

On the one hand, the goods power industry is affected by the high fuel price because of the mileage of its trucks. Socially affected, on the other hand, is a narrowly defined category of workers: those who are poorly paid, can no longer afford rent in the cities and live far away in the countryside.

They should all be known by name to the tax authorities, as employees who have to claim a commuter allowance for cars that are more than 20 kilometers away. Commuters on subsidized public transport, company car drivers or high-earning owners of expensive sports cars do not need support.
