The 13 centers affiliated with the Guinean trade union movement kicked off yesterday, Monday, the general and unlimited strike launched across the entire national territory. In Conakry, after the first day, the findings showed the closure of certain schools, the paralysis of traffic and activities, particularly on the Hamdallaye-Bambeto-Cosa-Encos axis5. Added to this is the disruption of rail transport, but also Orange Money transactions, followed by exchanges of tear gas and stones between young people and law enforcement officers, resulting in the deaths of men.
In a statement read this Tuesday, February 27, 2024 during a press conference, the National Coordinator of the Houses of Associations and NGOs of Guinea (MAOG), deplored this situation, before demanding the opening of an investigation and the suspension of the said strike.

In his communication, Apha Bayo first recalled that the MAOG in its traditional role of monitoring, alert, and proposal deployed observers throughout the national territory in order to take stock of the situation. Beyond the altercations which took place between the police and young people, particularly on the Prince axis, these actors of Guinean civil society also deplored the presence of children, as was the case with yesterday of young Mamady Keita, killed in Sonfonia in the Commune of Ratoma.
“Faced with this worrying situation, the House of Associations and NGOs of Guinea MAOG, concerned about peace and social tranquility in our country, strongly recommends:
1- To the transitional authorities:
✔ The unconditional release of comrade secretary general of the SPPG Sekou Jamal
Pendessa:

  1. To Trade Union Organizations: we recommend:
    ✔ The relaunch of the dialogue framework thus calling on all the major stakeholders in the country;
    VThe opening of an independent investigation into the case of death recorded on the first day of the unlimited general strike in order to identify the author of the crime, judge him and sentence him to the extent of his crime:

    government in order to allow trade unionists to discuss with the real
    interlocutors;
    To accept the government’s outstretched hand in opening the negotiation corridors;
    Clearly explain to the population the notion of strike (which does not necessarily mean street demonstrations),” mentioned Alpha Bayo, who further indicated that the MAOG as a civil society organization will always be part of the patriotic dynamic of safeguarding democratic achievements and will work to bring positions closer together.
