With two rounds left to play on the road to the round of 16, no team has qualified and everyone has a lot at stake in the next round.
Four rounds of the Conmebol Cups, the Libertadores and the Sudamericana, have already been played. And the Ecuadorians’ passage is not easy for almost anyone. At the moment, there are no qualifiers in the Eternal Glory, where the top two from each group advance. In the Other Half of the Glory, Universidad Católica has set its course and hopes to advance as leader to avoid a Repechage with one of the third-place finishers in the other international competition. Here they are, one by one, and the tables for each competition.

The Idol is the one with the worst performance among the Ecuadorians. The last defeat against Talleres in Córdoba left them mathematically eliminated from the Copa Libertadores. Those from Guayaquil are third with 2 points, below the T (10) and Sao Paulo (9). With 6 points in play, they only have to fight for that spot in the Sudamericana, which they are fighting for with Cobresal (1 point). On the sixth date, the bullfighters will be local to the Chileans.

League of Quito
Liga is not facing its dream season in terms of international competition either. Josep Alcácer’s team is bottom of Group D, with four points in the same number of matches played, but it is saved by the proximity of its rivals in the table. Universiatrio from Peru has five points, while Junior and Botafogo are at the top with six. El Albo is playing for everything at the end, with a goal difference that is worrying (-1, with only four goals scored).
Liga de Quito could not beat Botafogo in Brazil.
Independent of the Valley
San Lorenzo had been doing poorly until this first victory in the Libertadores, 2-0 over Independiente del Valle. A more than complex result for Javier Gandolfi’s team. Palmeiras was ahead in their zone with 10 points and then there are IDV, Ciclón and Liverpool from Uruguay, all with 4. The goal difference and above all the goals scored keep the Ecuadorians in second place, so it promises to be a very tight outcome.

The two clubs that occupy the first two places in Group D will qualify for the round of 16 of the Libertadores. Meanwhile, the third-placed team will go to the Copa Sudamericana play-offs with the second-placed teams from each zone of this tournament, for a place in the round of 16 of this competition. The fourth-placed team will be eliminated from international competition.

After the 1-1 draw with Belgrano in Córdoba, Delfín was left without a coach (Guillermo Duró left) and quickly confirmed his replacement (Juan Pablo Buch). The best positioned of ours. After the 4-0 thrashing of La Calera, Jorge Celico’s men remain undefeated in the competition and lead Group B with 10 points, four more than Cruzeiro. In the next round, if they defeat Alianza FC – they are last with just one point – Universidad Católica will secure their passage to the round of 16. Otherwise, depending on how the Brazilians fare against the Chileans, it would be decided in the last round, in Belo Horizonte…
