Marc Barcelona is an entrepreneur from Figueres born in 1982 who has the idea of ​​making mobility by bicycle much easier. For this, he has created the startup Niche Mobility which is based on devising a electric motor for bicycles where there is no need to change gears and make mobility much easier for cyclists. Cities will undergo a major environmental transformation and with mobility we will have to get used to seeing more and more bicycles on urban roads. Barceló is eager for Niche to demonstrate its innovative value and to see its engine on urban bikes very soon. He explains it in the seventh episode of Girona Valley, the podcast promoted by Diari de Girona and the digital communication agency La Factoria, which is dedicated to ideas, innovation, talent and entrepreneurship in Girona’s regions.

A Girona start-up wants to revolutionize mobility with electric bikes

Barceló already has experience as an entrepreneur: in 2005 he was part of the technical department ofin Tramuntana, in Figueres, which had the great goal of devising the luxury sports vehicle. It was a stage from 2005 to 2009 that he learned a lot alongside his ideologist Josep Rubau.

In 2009 he left the challenge and died Volta Motorbike, an electric motorcycle project that he finds exciting and took a lot from. It started, as he remembers, in his parents’ garage and from the stage until 2021 he has good memories, but also lessons that have helped him to start with Niche. “You always learn different things from mistakes and the lessons are useful so that you don’t make the same mistake again”, he explains and at the same time emphasizes: “Fall and get up and always look for personal and team motivation to move forward”.

Niche was born with the idea that if cars and electric motorcycles go without changing gear because you can’t do the same with the bicycle. Barceló wants to move forward with this innovative idea in the transformation of large cities and as a bicycle album users with little experience should not change gears and make travel much more comfortable is aware as he says “mobility will be a great problem in cities and we must look for innovative solutions”.
