Helmut Schlotterer (76), owner of the fashion company Marc Cain, does not want to sell his life’s work to external investors or to another company, he puts it in the hands of his employees. Marc Cain had a turnover of around 200 million euros worldwide in 2021.
This should secure the genes of Marc Cain in Bodelshausen in the district of Tübingen in the long term and ensure that the corporate vision and values continue to be lived. Employees now have the opportunity to actively participate in the company’s success and use their voting rights to determine how profits are used.

At an emotional, internal company event on June 22, Helmut Schlotterer announced his succession plan, which is redefining the future of the company. That is now known. He wants to bequeath both his business and his private assets to his social Helmut Schlotterer Foundation.

By setting up an employee foundation, the voting rights in his company are to be placed in the hands of his employees. This body is to be managed by a staff council consisting of all active executives.
“More than anything else, it is important to me that Marc Cain is placed in the right hands. Selling the company was never an option for me and since my wife and I have no children, I decided to set up foundations that will continue the company,” says Helmut Schlotterer.
The idea of the employee foundation is new and has never been done in this form. “But I am firmly convinced that this is the right way to continue Marc Cain in my interest and in the interest of the workforce. An important aspect is also securing the production site in Germany, Bodelshausen,” says the company boss.
