Marc Márquez is injured again and that is why he will not run the Dutch Grand Prix race this Sunday. He got up in more pain after Saturday’s crash in Q1 and finally the medical managers declared him “unfit” to go out on the track.

This is how Marc himself explained it on his social networks: “Hello everyone, as you know, I have not reached Assen one hundred percent physically. In addition to the sprain and fracture of the finger, this week in Madrid they saw that there was a fractured rib which has been causing me a lot of pain. This morning I woke up in a lot of pain and, after a review with the medical team, we have decided not to run today to prevent it from getting worse and thus be able to recover for the next few weeks. Thank you all very much for your support !”.

Marc arrived in Assen with a fractured phalanx of the first finger on his left hand and a severe blow to his right ankle. Both as a result of the five crashes he had in Germany that left him very sore. The rib problem did not appear until a few days later and has finally been revealed as the most important. Dr. Ángel Charte, MotoGP’s chief medical officer, explained it on DAZN: “When he returned to Madrid, three days after Germany, he had pain in his right rib cage, he went to the hospital, he had some scans that did not reveal anything abnormal. In Holland the rib pain is increasing. An ultrasound is done and we can see that there is a small fracture in the second right rib that makes it very annoying when breathing, in some movements. Yesterday he had a slight fall that he told me had no consequences, but this morning I saw him and that small fracture has increased, it has moved a little more. This can affect the pleura and cause respiratory problems, so I have decided not to go out on track. It is a medical decision”, he confirmed.

“I have told the doctors that I did not want to run”

Marc confirmed on DAZN that he had had a bad night and that he got up so sore that he did not want to go out on the track: “I had a bad night, after the Sprint I was not only sad, but also in pain and this morning I got up and went I went straight to the Medical Center to tell them that I didn’t want to run. Then they saw that the rib fracture had moved a bit. It’s time to rest and rest. This month and a half of break will do me good in all aspects”, he assured before these five weeks without racing.

It is one of his hardest moments personally, although it helps him to be happy personally: “I already said on Saturday that at a professional level it is one of my hardest moments, but the personal moment is compensating for it, which is one of the better, I am calm, happy, supported by my family, by my brother, by my partner, by the whole team, my manager, those who surround me, and that is where the balance is offsetting. It is what gives me strength to continue pushing and see if in Silverstone we can catch a different inertia”.

Now he has time to think about a future with or without Honda.
