On March 7, 1902, around 6 p.m., three individuals armed with guns and knives engaged in a regular fight in Belleville, rue Dénoyez. Alerted by the cries, two peacekeepers try to separate the protagonists. What they hadn’t expected was that the three Apaches would bury the hatchet so dry to turn against them. Reinforcements from the Poulaga house quickly come to their rescue. Two of the three thugs are arrested. They belong to two rival gangs, the Popincs and the Orteaux, named after their neighborhood of origin. In the early 20th century, these thugs were known as Apaches. For several weeks now, the two bands in question have been at loggerheads because of a winner named Amélie Élie who will later be nicknamed…
