The general secretary of the CGT Sophie Binet demanded sanctions on Friday for companies that do not “respect” gender equality in terms of pay, during a union rally in Paris.

“There is no sanction for companies which continue to pay women less than men,” lamented the leader of the CGT to the whistles and applause of workers at the Leroy Merlin brand Rosa Parks, in the 19th arrondissement.

Sophie Binet took part in a gathering organized by CGT union delegates from the DIY and decoration chain on the occasion of March 8, International Women’s Rights Day. They denounce a plan to cut jobs which targets 186 accountants, mainly “senior women”, according to concerned employees present at the rally.

The CGT wants a commitment against violence

“It’s an evolution of the profession and we are looking for individual solutions with each of the 186 people concerned, and we will take the time to do it throughout 2024,” Marc Renaud, director of the communication of Leroy Merlin.

In her intervention, Sophie Binet also criticized the lack of “sanctions for companies which do not have a prevention plan for gender-based and sexual violence”.

The rally in front of Leroy Merlin was also held in support of a cashier of the brand who was attacked at her post and was sanctioned by management for “not having reacted correctly”, said a CGT union delegate, Imane Haddache.
