A slight increase in the Rt index in Italy, which rose from 0.83 to 0,85. Instead, he continues the decline in incidence, descended to 29 weekly cases per 100 thousand inhabitants against 34 cases in the previous week. The number of Moderate risk regions: since 4, this week are 3
(Marche, Molise and Valle d’Aosta), while the rest of Italy remains anchored to a low risk. These are the salient data contained in the draft weekly monitoring Iss-Ministry of Health now being examined by the control room meeting on Friday morning.

The incidence decreases

The weekly incidence of Covid cases at a national level is still decreasing: 29 per 100 thousand inhabitants in the week 4-10 October, compared to 34 in the last survey (27 September – 3 October). In the period 22 September – 5 October 2021, the mean Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was equal to 0.85 (range 0.82 – 0.87), below the epidemic threshold and slightly up from the previous week when it scored 0.83.

Three regions at risk

Three Regions (Marche, Molise and Valle d’Aosta) are classified as moderate risk this week, compared to 4 last week (Basilicata, Valle d’Aosta, autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano). The remaining 18 Regions and Autonomous Provinces are classified a low risk. Two Regions report an alert of resilience linked to local health services (Autonomous Province of Bolzano and Sardinia).

Declining hospitalization rate

The occupancy rate falls again this week in intensive care: in fact equal to 4,1%, compared to 4.8% last week, with a slight decrease in the number of people hospitalized by 433 (October 5) to 370 (October 12). The employment rate

in medical areas at the national level it decreases al 4,6% (last week it was 5.1%). The number of people hospitalized in these areas down from 2,968 (October 5) to 2.665 (October 12).

Delta variant remains dominant

The monitoring shows that the number of new cases of Covid-19 not associated with transmission chains is decreasing (4,551 against 5,903 in the previous week). The percentage of cases detected through contact tracing activity instead slightly increased (34% against 33% last week). the percentage of cases detected through the onset of symptoms was stable (47% vs 47%). The experts of the ISS and the Ministry of Health underline how the Delta variant represents almost all cases in Italy and how it is dominant in the entire European Union. A variant associated with greater transmissibility – reads the document – and therefore a higher vaccination coverage is recommended, the completion of vaccination cycles and the maintenance of a high immune response, particularly in risk categories.
