TV presenter Marco Schreyl has written a book about his life: his growing up in the GDR, his career – and his mother’s illness. She suffered from Huntington’s disease, an incurable hereditary disease.
What happens if your parents get old and sick – that is a concern that many people probably know and share. Have you thought about it?
Yes I have. Just like every daughter or son probably does at some point. What is it actually like when the situation is reversed? What if suddenly the parents no longer have a duty of care for the children, but rather the children take care of the parents? I’ve already thought about that. But I couldn’t have imagined that it would come to me so early and so hard.
