The candidate of the Popular Party, Marga Prohens, has been invested as president of the Government by a simple majority thanks to the abstention of the eight Vox deputies in the second vote held this Thursday in Parliament in the third session of the investiture debate.

The popular has been proclaimed the new leader of the autonomous Executive at 6:49 p.m. by the president of the Chamber, Gabriel Le Senne, who will now communicate the appointment to the King and the president of the Government.

Prohens has added the necessary simple majority in this second vote with the 25 votes of his group, the favorable vote of the deputy of Sa Unió de Formentera and the abstention of Vox, by virtue of the agreement between both formations. It is expected that the new leader of the regional Executive will take office this Friday in an act in La Llotja starting at 7:30 p.m.

Margalida Prohens Rigo, the new island leader and already president of the Balearic Islands, is a translator, leader of the Popular Party in the archipelago and a former deputy in Congress, where she was deputy to the parliamentary group. Born in Campos, a municipality in Mallorca, Marga Prohens has a degree in translation and interpreting from Pompeu Fabra University, specializing in legal and sworn translation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a master’s degree in communication management and public relations from the EAE Business School. She has worked as a translator for the University of Barcelona and as a language mediator at the Palma City Council. Despite her education and her work in different Catalan organizations, Marga does not want her beloved islands to be an appendage of Catalonia within the Països Catalans. She defines herself as very “farmer” and Spanish in her diversity.

With an iron hand in a silk glove, this young, blonde and always smiling woman has achieved one of the most important agreements after 28M: dethrone the radical and socialist Catalanist, Francina Armengol, and close an agreement with Vox that has resulted in in his abstention today to govern alone in exchange for entering the councils of Mallorca and Menorca. Quite a feat based on a 110-point programmatic pact whose objective is the end of the separatist policies applied in the Balearic Islands by the previous Government, closing the bases for a change that ends the lack of linguistic freedom, sectarianism in education , lower taxes, the fight against illegal immigration, violence against women and support for victims. A decalogue of new intentions that make Marga Prohens one of the great winners of the regional elections, within Alberto Núñez Feijóo’s strategy of betting on solid governments. The new PP team will maintain a monitoring commission with Vox that will periodically monitor the scope of the agreements and legislative actions.

Faced with the noise of other popular leaders, such as María Guardiola from Extremadura, the agreement in the Balearic Islands has been conceived with discretion, tenacity and in favor of citizen interests. It is not a minor change, given that Francina Armengol was one of the regional leaders closest to Pedro Sánchez, which is a severe setback for the socialist leader and a great asset for Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who always opted for Marga Prohens despite that she was on Pablo Casado’s team and was a deputy spokesperson in Congress during his tenure.

A member of Nuevas Generaciones, she was a very young deputy in the Balearic Parliament and later head of the list for the Lower House. At this stage, she starred in heated debates with the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, whom she reproached for her anachronistic feminism, and she became a firm defender of women from her center-right principles.

With more than 12 years in politics, Marga was one of the most valued candidates by the CIS. Separated and mother of a child from her first marriage, she is one of the “modern” of the PP. She had lived with the people’s deputy Javier Bonet for a long time until her daughter Blanca was born from her, her great illusion. So, the couple decided to get married and they staged a very romantic wedding, full of island traditions, at the Morneta de Binissalem rustic estate, in the interior of Mallorca. In attendance were close friends, various leaders of the Balearic PP and the party’s general secretary, Cuca Gamarra, with whom Marga worked hand in hand in Congress. The couple had managed her relationship with great discretion until Blanca was born, whom Marga shows off on her mobile phone and on social networks with numerous photos and messages of affection.

The already elected president has always taken her eldest son to school every day, something that now due to the demands of the position she will have to modify. During the campaign, she gave her baby a bottle and later turned to rallies, she resorted to the help of her mother. “Luckily I have a mom,” wrote the candidate on her social networks.

Now, life will give them a big change, since she will be the president of the archipelago and Javier Bonet is number two on the list of Palma to the Congress of Deputies. On the night of the autonomous victory, Marga also exhibited a romantic photograph of the couple on her networks, melted into an affectionate hug and warm kiss with a message: “Thank you for always being there.” She is a woman attached to her family and to the traditions of the islands. At her typically Mallorcan wedding, chef Miquel Calent was in charge of preparing the catering and Jaume Anglada sang at the ceremony. Her message of “Thank you”, Marga Prohens extends it to all those who have given her victory.
