The film ‘Big Eyes’ narrated how her husband, Walter Keane, claimed responsibility for his wife’s paintings

Keane became famous for his characteristic portraits with huge eyes , which became very popular in the fifties and sixties, until becoming an icon of kitsch. In 1964 alone he sold two million dollars worth of paintings.

Among his fans were Andy Warhol Zsa Zsa Gabor, Liberace o Natalie Wood.

In 2014, his story jumped to the big screen with the help of Tim Burton who dedicated his film ‘Big Eyes’ to her, with Amy Adams as Margaret Keane and Christoph Waltz as Walter Keane.

That tape narrated how her husband claimed responsibility for his wife’s paintings, an abuse that lasted for years, until in 1970 Margaret Keane announced that she was the true author of the works.
