The head of the airport operations department at Al Hoceima airport, Fouad El Khattabi, stressed that the airport continues to implement the measures adopted to meet the requirements of Operation Marhaba 2024, in coordination with the various stakeholders, in order to provide good conditions for welcoming passengers and quality services during the arrival and return phases.

Regarding the Al Hoceima airport expansion project, the official specified that the airport’s air infrastructure development project, launched in August 2023 by the National Airports Office (ONDA), has been completed, noting that this project made it possible to extend the runway from 2,500 meters to 3,200 meters in length.

The aircraft parking area was also strengthened and expanded, which increased the airport’s capacity.

As part of this project, the runway exit routes were also reinforced, in addition to the construction of a new taxiway, the creation of two aircraft turnaround areas and the renewal of the light beacons.

The project also includes the expansion of the aircraft parking area to accommodate 9 aircraft instead of 4, as well as other infrastructure, in addition to the renewal of air navigation equipment.

The official noted that this project also involves the construction of a new aerial surveillance tower, the construction work of which was launched recently, stressing that the cost of the project is estimated at around 262.5 million dirhams.
