Maria Bramont-Arias Competes in Paris 2024 Open Water Swimming Final
Paris, France – Peruvian swimmer María Alejandra Bramont-Arias competed in the final of the 10-kilometer open water swimming event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Thursday. The race took place in the historic Seine River.
Despite controversy surrounding the water quality, Bramont-Arias became the first Peruvian to qualify for the Olympics in this discipline. She finished 21st out of 24 athletes with a time of 2:12:44.7.
Gold went to Sharon van Rouwendaal of the Netherlands (2:03:34.2), while Moesha Johnson of Australia (2:03:39.7) and Ginevra Tadeucci of Italy (2:03:42.8) took silver and bronze, respectively.
Bramont-Arias, 24, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to represent Peru at the Olympics and called it a ”dream come true.”
