The book “Maria Callas” by Giandonato Crico retraces his story, from his beginnings to his death, passing through intense artistic moments – such as, for example, the collaboration with Luchino Visconti and the cinematographic adventure with Pier Paolo Pasolini – it is perceptively portrayed by the author Giandonato Crico who peppers it with little episodes known of her human biography and a series of curious anecdotes from which we can deduce the circumstances and choices made by a woman whose external and internal life, as well as her character, was decidedly not easy.
Between her private complexes and her sudden projection into the international jet set, Callas was a perennial target of the rotogravure newspapers for love affairs, friendships, scandals and treacherous rages; in this volume, in addition to tracing the main stages of her human and artistic “consummation”, we technically analyze those distinctive traits of her singing timbre, recognizable at first impact.
The book is enriched by numerous photographs, some of which are published here for the first time together with a parallel story composed of quotes and phrases uttered by Callas herself or by other characters, who comment on her person and work: from Riccardo Muti to Luciano Pavarotti, from Yves Saint Laurent to Placido Domingo, from Luchino Visconti to Alberto Arbasino.
