Another candidacy was announced for the mayoral seat of the Municipality of Metsovo, with Maria-Christina Averof confirming the information that she was wanted as the head of a new faction.
Maria-Christina Averof announced her resignation in the October municipal elections as head of the “Together High” faction exactly one month after the announcement of the joint resignation of the heads of the three opposition factions Theofilos Soultis, Apostolis Bitunis and Spyros Vassiliou, led by first in the faction called “Alliance of Progress”, and just one day after the declaration of the current mayor Kostas Tzafeas that he will be a candidate again as the head of the “Choice of Responsibility” faction.
It is worth noting that it will not be the first time that he will deal with the public affairs of the Municipality of Metsovo, as he has served as a municipal councilor in the period 2003-2006, in the first term of Kostas Tzafeas, and was president of the Spiritual Center. Now he will be up against him, although there are many who estimate that all the current mayoral candidates will make it to the end.
“When you hurt a place, when you love its people and when you see that you can help, then there is no other way. You have to offer! This place, all of us who love it, needs us. We are at a tipping point where, if things don’t start happening, our place will be lost. It will be deserted. So far we have survived. Now that is not enough. Our mountains will remain uninhabited and only some ghosts in the deserted villages will testify that life once existed. Is this what we want?
Our country must come back to life, be revitalized. The roads that were opened must bring people and not drive them away. There must be prospects for young people, the right conditions must be created and the required infrastructure must be built so that they too can dream of their lives here, in their villages.
All of us who have lived and understood the uniqueness of this place must and must unite and together work purposefully and effectively to realize our visions”, states the candidate mayor in her written statement, adding that her motivation is love and his innate drive to deliver.
“For me, this decision was a one-way street. It is my duty to try to offer to the place where I grew up and I have an obligation to all of you my fellow mountain residents, who taught me the dignity and values of life. After all, the history and tradition of my family dictates it to me. I invite you all to discuss, share our concerns and find solutions. There is no room for division. We must understand that only united can we claim tomorrow. Personal differences and interests must be put aside and our individual ambitions must be united in one and only one: our place should once again become a place where our dreams come true! For my part, I assure you that I fully understand the responsibility of this challenge and I promise that I will dedicate myself and work honestly and hard. I honestly believe that beneficial and innovative projects can be made. However, a necessary condition is that we make this effort together. Together we will return to our country Psila!”, he concludes
Maria-Christina Averof was born and grew up in Metsovo, where she finished high school. He completed secondary education in England and studied photography in Paris and America. He worked at ELLE magazine and at the Egnatia Foundation of Epirus in programs aimed at the development of Epirus, while he was professionally involved in tourism, founding “Eco Experience”, with the aim of organizing specialized and personalized tours in Epirus. He has volunteered in many actions and programs of cultural, social and charitable organizations, and is a member of the Board of Directors. of the Agency for the Protection and Social Integration of Autistic Children, Adolescents and Adults – Avali. She is married to Damianos Abakumkin and is the mother of Viktoros, Elena and Markos.
